SLC Makes the HB500
Evolution of the HB500: Celebrating 25 Years
Hispanic Business
, May 2007

The first listing of the largest Hispanic-owned companies in the United States was published by Hispanic Business magazine in June 1983. The list contained 400 companies with total revenues of $3.71 billion. More than one-quarter of the companies were from California, with Texas and Florida a distant second and third respectively. The No. 1 company, General Coffee Corporation, had revenues of $275 million and a company needed to report revenues of just over $1 million to make the list.

In this year's listing, the total number of companies stands at 500 and boasts total revenues of $36.6 billion, an increase of almost 1,000 percent from the initial listing. Florida now tops the list with 125 companies, followed by California (104) and Texas (74). Companies now must show revenues of more than $5 million just to make the HB500.
